David Hawkins
David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. (1927–2012) was a nationally renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, and spiritual teacher whose pioneering work bridged the worlds of clinical science and consciousness studies. As Medical Director of the North Nassau Mental Health Center and Director of Research at Brunswick Hospital on Long Island, he managed one of the largest psychiatric practices in New York, achieving major clinical breakthroughs in the treatment of schizophrenia and alcoholism that earned him recognition from the American Medical Association and a lifetime fellowship from the American Psychiatric Association.
In 1995, Hawkins published his landmark work Power vs. Force, introducing the Map of Consciousness—a calibrated scale of human awareness that offered a revolutionary framework for understanding the hidden determinants of human behavior. The book was translated into twenty-five languages and sold over a million copies, drawing praise from figures as diverse as Mother Teresa and Sam Walton. Over the following decades, he authored a series of deeply influential books on truth, devotion, and the nature of reality that established him as one of the foremost voices in the modern exploration of human potential and spiritual growth.
Among the most distinguished authors in the Nightingale-Conant collection, Dr. Hawkins' audio programs offer listeners a rare synthesis of scientific rigor and spiritual wisdom—practical tools for elevating consciousness, dissolving limiting beliefs, and accessing the higher levels of awareness that lead to genuine fulfillment and inner peace.
