Published in 1906, The Life Power and How to Use It is one of the foundational works of the New Thought movement — a timeless guide to understanding and consciously directing the spiritual, mental, and physical forces that shape human life and destiny.

Elizabeth Towne — one of the most important publishers and thinkers in the New Thought tradition — draws on the universal spiritual laws explored by her contemporaries to present a deeply practical philosophy of self-development. Her core insight: within each person exists a life power of extraordinary magnitude, and the key to a fulfilling, abundant life lies in learning to direct that power with clarity, purpose, and wisdom.

In this program, you will explore:

  • The nature of personal life power and how to consciously awaken it
  • The relationship between soul, mind, and body — and how to develop all three
  • Practical methods for directing mental and spiritual forces toward your goals
  • The principle of substance and how spiritual laws govern material reality
  • Your relationship to universal spirit — and how to align yourself with it
  • The role of personal evolution and duty in a purposeful life
  • How to manage your vital forces effectively to maximize energy and achievement

Inspired by the Walt Whitman epigraph she chose to open the work — "I am an acme of things accomplished, and I am an encloser of things to be" — Towne presents a vision of human potential that is as inspiring and instructive today as it was over a century ago. Published by Nightingale-Conant, this audio program brings this neglected classic to a new generation of seekers and achievers.

About the Author

Elizabeth Towne (1865–1960) was one of the most influential figures in the New Thought movement — not only as a thinker and writer but as the premier publisher of New Thought literature in America. Through the Elizabeth Towne Company, based in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she published the works of some of the greatest New Thought authors of the early twentieth century, including William Atkinson, Ralph Waldo Trine, and many others. Her own writing drew on the same principles she championed as a publisher — the power of the mind and spirit to shape physical reality — and her 1906 work The Life Power and How to Use It remains a foundational text in the tradition of conscious self-development.
