Written in 1513, The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli remains the world's most famous — and most debated — master plan for seizing and holding power. Disturbingly realistic in its analysis of leadership, ambition, and human nature, this timeless work offers insights as relevant to modern business and strategy as to the Renaissance courts for which it was written.

When Machiavelli was removed from his beloved Florence, he resolved to set down everything he had learned about power and leadership. The result was a treatise that stripped away idealism to reveal how rulers actually succeed — through decisiveness, strategic thinking, and an unflinching understanding of human behavior. This Nightingale-Conant audio edition, narrated by Dan Strutzel, brings Machiavelli's essential wisdom to life for today's leaders.

What You'll Learn

Machiavelli's timeless principles of power, influence, and leadership
How decisiveness and strategic thinking separate great leaders from ordinary ones
The role of fortune and virtue in achieving and maintaining power
Why appearances and perceptions shape political and business reality
Practical leadership lessons applicable to negotiation, strategy, and business today

About the Author

Niccolò Machiavelli (1469–1527) was an Italian Renaissance diplomat, philosopher, and writer. Born in Florence, he served as a senior official in the Florentine Republic before its fall. His masterwork The Prince, written in 1513 and published posthumously in 1532, established him as the father of modern political science. His unflinching analysis of power and human nature has influenced rulers, generals, and business leaders for over five centuries.
