One morning more than 40 years ago, an amazing message was played for a group of salespeople at Earl Nightingale's insurance agency — and they were utterly electrified by what they heard. Word spread like wildfire. More than 200,000 people called, wrote, or walked in to request a copy. Over the years, that number soared above one million.

The Strangest Secret became the first spoken-word recording in history to earn a Gold Record for sales. Originally recorded in 1956, this legendary message answers the central question of all human achievement: why do some people succeed while others with equal ability fail? The answer — the strangest secret — is this: we become what we think about.

  • Understand how purposeful thinking shapes every outcome in your life
